Freesat Installation

What we cover

Why people in Bucks & Herts are switching to Freesat

Freesat isn't a downgrade from Sky — for most households it's the same channels without the £40–£80 monthly bill.

01

Cancelling Sky

Sky has pushed pricing hard the last few years. A Freesat conversion typically pays for itself inside three months and keeps every Freeview HD channel you actually watch.

02

Moving into a property with an existing dish

Don't sign up to Sky just because there's a dish on the wall. We can test, re-cable and Freesat-enable that dish in one visit.

03

Second home or holiday let

No-one wants a monthly Sky bill on a property they use 12 weekends a year. Freesat with a recorder gives guests full HD TV with zero ongoing cost.

04

Older or vulnerable family members

Freesat has a simple EPG, no confusing app menus, and won't suddenly stop working because a subscription lapsed. Popular with relatives who just want the news and Bargain Hunt.

05

Areas with poor Freeview reception

Some Bucks valleys and Chiltern dips get patchy Freeview. Freesat is unaffected by terrain — if the dish can see the satellite, you get every channel.

06

Freesat 4K recorders

Modern Freesat 4K boxes record up to four channels at once, pause live TV, integrate iPlayer/ITVX, and sync recordings across rooms. Comparable to Sky Q for most viewers.

07

Smart TV built-in satellite tuners

Samsung, LG and Panasonic TVs from 2018 onward have a satellite tuner built in. We connect, scan and configure them — saving you the cost of a separate Freesat box.

08

Multi-room Freesat

One dish, multiple rooms — via quad or octo LNB and a tidy multiswitch. Each TV gets its own independent channel feed.

Freesat installation, Freesat recorder setup and full Sky-to-Freesat conversions across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Over 200 free-to-air channels in HD, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All 4 and My5 — with no monthly bill, no contract and no credit check. Independent engineers who supply, install, re-cable and configure Freesat 4K recorders and Smart TV satellite tuners on new dishes or by re-using your existing Sky dish.

The cleanest way to cancel Sky without losing the channels you watch

Most people who cancel Sky still want BBC One HD, ITV, Channel 4 and the kids' channels. Freesat gives you all of that — over 200 free-to-air channels, around 30 in HD, plus BBC iPlayer, ITVX and All 4 built in — with no monthly subscription, no contract and no engineer waiting around for a Sky retentions call. We install fresh systems on new dishes, but we more commonly re-use your existing Sky dish: a quick LNB check, a new cable run if needed, and a Freesat 4K recorder paired to your TV. Job usually takes under two hours.

Why choose Aylesbury Aerials

Independent — no provider quotas

We don't earn commission to push any one box. We'll recommend the right Freesat recorder (or none at all) for how you actually watch TV.

We re-use what works

If your existing Sky dish and cabling are sound, we say so. No upselling a new dish you don't need.

Full setup, not just bolted on

Channel scan, regional BBC and ITV set correctly, iPlayer and ITVX signed in, parental controls if you want them — handover is on a working TV.

Same-day in most areas

Call before midday across HP, MK, AL, WD and LU postcodes and we can usually have you on Freesat by the evening.

Common questions

Can I use my existing Sky dish for Freesat?

+

Yes — in the vast majority of cases. Sky and Freesat use the same satellite (Astra 28.2°E), so as long as the dish, LNB and cabling are sound, we just connect a Freesat receiver to it. We test signal on the first visit and only quote a new dish if yours is genuinely past it.

Do I really pay nothing per month for Freesat?

+

Correct. Freesat is a free-to-air service jointly run by the BBC and ITV. You pay once for the equipment and installation, then nothing. No contract, no credit check, no monthly bill. You still need a TV Licence, the same as for Freeview or Sky.

What channels do I lose by moving from Sky to Freesat?

+

You lose Sky's own channels — Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Sky Atlantic and a handful of others. You keep BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, all their HD variants, the children's channels, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All 4, My5, plus around 180 other free channels. For most households that's everything they actually watched.

Does Freesat work in HD and 4K?

+

Yes. Around 30 channels are in HD as standard and Freesat 4K recorders support UHD content where broadcast. Picture quality on BBC One HD via Freesat is identical to BBC One HD on Sky.

How long does a Freesat installation take?

+

A Sky-to-Freesat conversion using your existing dish is usually 60–90 minutes. A brand-new dish installation including alignment, cabling and receiver setup is typically two to three hours.

Do you cover all of Bucks and Herts?

+

Yes — every HP, MK, AL, WD and LU postcode, plus parts of OX9 and SG. Same-day Freesat installs are usually possible if you call before midday.
